He is painted with a colorful blue surrounding him because the puddle he's walking in is reflecting the sky, clouds and colorful bougainvillea pedals and leaves are seen floating on the surface. This is also a slight nod to Monet's famous pond paintings!

Our gicleé process in 6 steps:

1. Digitally scan the original oil painting to create a very large and high quality image.
2. Color correcting and printing of proofs for artists’ approval.
3. Printed on archival quality canvas, using archival quality pigments with a commercial fine art printer referred to as gicleé (French to “spurt”).
4. The canvas is then stretched over a wood frame.
5. Clear varnish and UV coated to protect surface from scratches and sunlight.
6. Hand embellished with paint by Amanda, each signed and numbered.

About the Rooster Collection: It wasn’t long after arriving in Key West from Chicago in 2012 when Amanda painted her first rooster. The island is known for roosters roaming free and has become an iconic presence in the Keys; their colorful and bold personalities have been the inspiration for many artists.

 Channeling local culture and historical influences, her series of roosters embodies a diverse spectrum of personality, received by an enthusiastic audience who enjoy the lightheartedness and humor as well as the timeless classical portraits.

Each rooster giclee is carefully embellished by hand using paint by Amanda, making each rooster even more unique in their expression. No two giclees are the same. With their life-like facial expressions and quality craftsmanship they are poised to become a collectible piece of art (or favorite friend!) who will withstand time.

Amanda’s rooster series has grown to include more than 20 original oil paintings, most of which are in private collections across the country.

A selection of the roosters has been published into a limited edition fine art series of 50. That means only 50, regardless of size, of each rooster is created.

About Amanda Johnson: American artist, Amanda Johnson studied art at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago before traveling to Key West in 2011 on an inspirational journey, where she discovered the rich brilliance and luminosity of the tropical sun enlivening her use of colors and inspired her turn toward impressionism and plein air painting.

 Amanda Johnson established a studio and gallery in old town Key West, where she continued painting subjects ranging from flora and fauna to the resident island roosters, all of which reflect her style of impressionism, using palette knife and heavy brushwork.

The combination of exacting detail, lush texture and passionate movement is a distinguishing characteristic in Amanda’s oil paintings, invoking a feeling of subtle intrigue and powerful presence.
